1984 Olympics
Commemorative Transit Tokens There are plenty of ways to celebrate the international goodwill the Olympics generate, but perhaps none quite as strange as these transit tokens created by the city of Los Angeles to commemorate the 1984 Olympic games. Can you imagine the opening ceremony speech? "Welcome people of all nations. On behalf of the city of Los Angeles I'd like to invite you to enjoy an invigorating bus ride through the city with these amazing, commemorative transit coins!" This set of collectible Olympic Transit Tokens, designed by N. Neil Harris, were actual usable tokens for the Southern California Rapid Transit District. Each of the 24 metal 1-1/4" diameter coins has a sport on one side and the symbol of the 1984 Olympics on the other.
